UPDATED 5/25/25
I'm fundraising for both of my dogs Luna & Spencer.
On Monday, May 12, 2025, I myself had surgery. I organized to have a family member stay with me, to help watch my dogs as I would not have arm mobility to care for them for 2-3 weeks. The person designated to watch my dogs didn't take care of them, and while under their care, my 10-year-old pit ate something that got stuck in a small intestine. The first night of my surgery, she started to show symptoms, and I was cleaning up vomit and caring for her rather than the family member who was flown into town to help me post-surgery. I had no choice but to use my arms because my dog was severely sick. I had hoped it would pass, but it continued for another day and a half. Soon she was vomiting black bile and blood.
I rushed her to the vet myself, crying while I drove from the pain. She land and x-rays done, to discover that she has an obstruction in her small intestine that was causing it inclination 3x the size it should be. She was given fluids for extreme dehydration, IV anti nausea meds, and IV medications to hopefully for inflammation and to help pass the obstruction naturally, as well as sent home with meds, in hopes that the obstruction would pass naturally. I was reassured by the vet that she should be calmer upon returning home and should not have anymore vomiting, just passing the obstruction naturally. As well as being instructed to bring her back for surgery the next day if she hadn’t passed anything by that evening. Upon returning home from the vet and resting at home for a few hours, she lost consciousness while vomiting more blood as well as beginning to show bloody liquid stool. With the severity of her condition, I couldn’t wait until morning, and quickly rushed her to an urgent care vet where she stayed overnight to have around-the-clock care. They had to run several tests, and multiple x-rays every few hours to watch the movement of the obstruction. She was stabilized with my consent to rush her into surgery at any given time. Before morning, the obstruction had inflamed her small intestine 4x the normal size, as well has showing new inclination in her stomach. With the worry of internal bleeding, she was given a biopsy and more medications. The urgent care vet was also hoping she would pass the obstruction naturally, so she was given more IV medications, constant fluids, etc. With the obstruction having not passed by early morning, spreading to her stomach as well and showing decline in her condition, she went into surgery Thursday morning. Rather than just a small intestine surgery she had to have surgery on both her small intestine and stomach.
Her surgery was successful and she is now recovering at home on around the clock medications and constant care, as I am also home healing from surgery.
A few days after Luna’s surgery, my 12 year old dog Spencer, started to exhibit the earlier stages of symptoms that Luna had shown. I immediately put myself and my fresh out of surgery dog in the car, so we could rush Spencer to Urgent Care.
They ran all the same labs and x-rays as they did on Luna. He was showing inflammation in his stomach, and was given IV hydration and medications, as well as medication to take home. They had hoped he would improve with at home care. The next day he was not eating or drinking and was completely out of it. So again, we piled into the car and rushed him back to urgent care. Where he was given different medications. He has an infection in his stomach, most likely caused by either the same things that caused Luna to get sick, or from licking her face to comfort her while she was sick at home earlier on. Either way, he was given medications and released to return home. He is now on around the clock medications as well, and improving.
both dogs have upcoming follow ups.
Both follow ups will be costly as they require more x-rays, labs and possible biopsy for Luna to ensure the inside of her stomach is not longer inflamed and no internal bleeding.
The amount I am trying to raise covers the cost of their visits, lab tests, x-rays, medications, surgery, urgent care stays and expenses for post-op care that is needed.
I’ve been managing all of this while recovering from surgery myself, juggling nine medication alarms each day—5 for Luna, 4 for Spencer, and 3 for myself. I have no in-home help and rely on a waist leash to take the dogs outside for bathroom breaks. It’s been physically painful, emotionally exhausting, and financially overwhelming.
If you know me, you know that my dogs are everything to me. What's been most difficult is not being able to hold them through any of this since returning home from my surgery, as I am still recovering as well. I'd like to be able to afford the aftercare they need for full recovery, as well as the initial necessary vet care, so that when all 3 of us are healed, we can resume our daily walks and hikes together.
My dogs are normally very healthy and these last few weeks have been the hardest and scariest both emotionally physically.
When I originally made this gofundme me it was just for Luna surgery. However, the vet bills have stacked along with Spencer’s recent urgent care.
We are in tremendous debt, and the new job I was supposed to start post my surgery, fell through, as the person I was replacing is no longer leaving the company.
I know times are hard for everyone right now.
Any amount in donations, no matter the amount makes a worlds difference for our small family. It’s hard to ask for help but it’s just me and my dogs and things have never been this bad.
Thank you for reading and thank you donating.
Please share this gofundme me after donating.
