I’m moving to New Jersey next month to start my Emergency Medicine residency as a brand new physician — and it still doesn’t feel real.
My brother and I are both proud first-generation college graduates, and I’m incredibly honored to be the first doctor in our family.
A few years ago, I relocated to Philadelphia to pursue my Master of Public Health degree and ended up staying — building a life away from the family and friends who’ve always been my core support system. Now, I’m preparing to leave Philly for residency and step into an even more intense, exciting chapter.
As a medical student, I’ve lived off of loans for the past four years. Now, as I prepare to move to New Jersey, I’m facing high relocation costs, including:
✅ First month’s rent & security deposit
✅ Moving expenses
✅ Work essentials
✅ Licensing & residency fees
I’ll be starting my Emergency Medicine residency (yes, chaos is my brand) and navigating a new city, new hospital, and a lot of late-night shifts — all while figuring out how to adult in a brand new state. While I’m not great at asking for help, I’ve been told this is not the time to practice stoicism — so I created a little GoFundMe to help with the move.
Thank you for cheering me on through every step. Here’s to new beginnings, big dreams, and becoming Dr. Tate!!!!
