Hello everyone, my name is Mary Covarubias. My son is Jesse Covarubias, boyfriend of Paige Dee, Robert Dee’s 16 year old daughter. I asked Carrie if I could start a Go Fund Me as the entire Dee family is devastated and still in shock.
I will preface this by saying I only met Paige’s father Robert on a few occasions, but always really liked him and the warmth that he exuded every time he would pick and drop Paige off at our house. It was obvious the love that he had for his only daughter Paige.
Not many Dads are thrilled about their teenage daughter having a boyfriend, but Rob and Carrie have always made it clear to me how much they love seeing our kids together. Paige and Jesse have been in each other’s lives for 3 years. I view Paige as a daughter and Carrie has become a good friend.
When we took photos 11 days ago for Paige’s Homecoming dance, it was apparent to me that Paige was the apple of Rob’s eye. He was beaming at how beautiful she looked! I was grateful Rob was there because I had another parent who was as enthusiastic as I was about taking their pictures. I know how much it annoys my kids when it’s just me! I hugged Rob goodbye and thanked him for being such an awesome parent.
Yesterday we learned that Rob took his life and it has been shock and grief ever since. My heart is broken for Paige and I don’t want to see this young lady in pain the way that I have ever since we got the phone call yesterday. I lost my father the same way and I know what lays ahead for Paige and all of the things that she and Rob will miss out on.
I would ask that you reserve judgment and focus on this beautiful young lady and be a part of her support system. Whether that is through prayer or any type of contribution towards her future, any and all support helps.
I know other family members and friends can fill in the information that I can’t, but I do know that Rob, like so many of us, struggled with mental health.
Since speaking more with Carrie I would like to add that Rob’s personality was larger than life and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was the life of the occasion and family always looked forward to his presence. Rob always put thought into any gift he gave. He struggled with being bipolar and had really dark times, all while hiding behind a larger than life personality. Rob loved Paige more than anything and even that could not stop him from taking his own life.
I personally believe Rob may have ended his struggle a long time ago had it not been for the incredibly close relationship he shared with Paige. I saw this with my own father and brother and I know this struggle to be stronger than any family bond.
Rob was truly loved by his family and friends and was extremely thoughtful. Although no longer together as a couple, Rob always took care of his family and shared a close co-parent relationship with Carrie. He even offered to move back in to care for her after her recent surgery.
