On February 6, 2023, Senior Operating Systems Analyst Tony Xu assigned to SDN, suffered a series of strokes while at work. Tony was rushed to the nearest Kaiser Permanente immediately after showing signs of confusion and exhaustion.

During his first few days at the hospital, his condition presented signs of stability but the doctor has not yet determined his diagnosis after initial scanning and evaluation. His condition quickly deteriorated when he started to lose some of his motor skills and suddenly became non-verbal. Tony has stopped speaking and doesn't seem to respond or listen to commands. The CT scans found clots on his brain.

Tony is only 39 years old. He and his wife Lora just had their first baby Penelope 10 months ago. The family should have been enjoying raising their first child but their lives have turned upside down.

Tony now depends on a feeding tube. He does not seem to recognize familiar faces but he still gives you that infectious smile that he's greatly known for.

It is expected Tony will need to undergo brain surgery to restore some blood flow and repair blood vessels with an unknown period of recovery at the moment.

As anyone who has worked with Tony will know he is a dedicated and hardworking colleague, an epitome of a team player who is always willing to help and carries a great attitude shown by his jolly baby face smile. He is a loving husband and a great father. His wife now has to take the sole responsibility for running their household and living expenses as well as taking care of their child. His current condition sadly leaves his family financially vulnerable. Work and insurance do not make allowances for all aspects of our lives when such a medical emergency occur, but I know for certain how much love and concern we have for Tony and the significant difference we can make.
