Bev's Battle to Breathe

Our dear friend, Beverly McCartt, is one of the proprietors of Hip Dog Hydrotherapy. Unfortunately, in April, the bronchitis she thought she was fighting left her unable to breathe, and she was forced to call 911. She was taken to the ER by paramedics and hospitalized for four days. She was finally diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. It was the medical crisis that we all fear.

Bev is one of the unfortunates who fell through a crack in the ACA leaving her without insurance. Fortunately, the Orlando Health hospital system gave her charity status, taking a $45,000 balance to $0. But there are still bills for extensive lab work, radiology, doctors, the fire department transport bill, etc.  After about a month post discharge, these bills amount to approximately $8,000. There also remains follow up care with a pulmonologist and a cardiologist, and the cost is unknown.

Bev has given so much to our beloved fur babies and to us - their owners. She has brought comfort to aging dogs through swim and massage therapy and given them a better quality of life. She is pictured below with our beloved Nicky. She has rehabilitated injured dogs, and taught young dogs to swim. She helps not only dogs, but also some cats and even a rabbit. Bev and Peter, her husband and co-proprietor, keep their rates reasonable and provide free care to rescue organizations. Now Bev needs OUR help. We are asking for $12,000 to cover the outstanding bills, to consult with doctors that can develop a plan of action, and to purchase a special bed as she can no longer sleep lying down.
