Marleys Surgery from Pitbull Attack

About 2 weeks ago my mother was walking her dog Marley around her neighborhood when she encountered a man walking his two pit bulls. They were about 10 houses away walking in her direction. Well, suddenly one of the pit bulls started freaking out and was able to break out of his collar and he started to charge at my mother and her dog. My mom quickly picked Marley up and started running in the opposite direction. The pitbull caught up to her pretty quickly and he jumped on her back and knocked her to the ground. She tried hiding her dog underneath her stomach but she’s so tiny the pitbull was able to get ahold of her dogs butt and pull him out from under her. The pitbull started tearing Marley up and shaking him. The dog owner finally caught up to my mom and tried to get his dog to release Marley. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to. My mother was screaming for help when other neighbors came out and tried to help. The wife of the man walking the pitbulls came out as well to get her other pitbull and told my mom that she hated these dogs. Eventually they were able to pry Marley from the mouth of the pitbull. But he wasn’t able to walk and he was covered in a pool of blood. The owner gave her a towel to wrap her dog in but wasn’t sympathetic at all. She wrapped Marley up and was able to get back to her house where her mother was able to rush him the the emergency vet while she was taken away by ambulance. When the pitbull jumped on her she fractured her spine and spent the night in the hospital. Marley has half his body covered in stitches but that’s not where it stopped. She woke up one morning to Marley once again, in a pool of blood. She rushed him to the vet again and they found he had internal bleeding and he will need a surgery to repair the damages. Basically, he has 2 large tears that are making it impossible for him to pee out of his man parts. They are going to go in and re-route how he pees. He will not be able to pee out of his man parts anymore, he will essentially pee like a female does. The surgery alone will be about $2500. Not including all of the prior vet bills. The owner of the pit bulls willing surrendered his pitbull and he sadly was put down. They also took the other pitbull and are holding him for review to see if he is also aggressive. My mother did hire a lawyer and he was served papers but he has not responded. Pitbulls are not allowed by the HOA nor the owner of the home. Please please please do not think this is an attacked against pit bulls. Both my mother and I are huge dog people and have never had any bad experiences with this breed. It quite honestly could have been any breed but unfortunately it did happen to be a pitbull. She is not blaming the dog, she is blaming the owners.  It would be greatly appreciated as it’s extremely hard for my mother to be asking for help, but they told her if her dog didn’t have the surgery, than he would not make it. The surgery is scheduled for Thursday the 10th.
