U2C: Providing a Second Chance

Overview:

It’s no secret the American incarceration system is broken, as individuals are released back into the real world after their sentences with no resources, education, or opportunities.

The fact is, today 1 in 3 American Adults have a criminal record. That’s 70 million Americans. Unfortunately, these individuals who are released run the high risk of bumping into one or many of the 44,000 legal barriers prohibiting them from obtaining a second chance.

The truth is companies don’t want to hire them and society doesn’t want to help them. One social enterprise and public benefit startup, Unit 2 Creations , would provide indie publisher and audio-video production jobs and upward mobility to those that deserve a second chance.

The Problem:

People that were once incarcerated, convicted, or wrongfully charged are shunned by our labor markets today. In one study, it was found that unemployment hovers are 27.3% for this portion of the population, when compared to the normal 5.8% for everyone else. There is a bias against people that have committed crimes, as employers assume they will do it again or will become a liability for their operation. During the application process, they simply look over them for those that do not have a record.

It is business owners’ personal right to do this; however, this places millions of willing Americans in a tough situation. They want to work and help our economy, but they have no options at their disposal. It is estimated that $87 billion dollars is lost economic output by not allowing those with a criminal record to fully re-enter the workforce.

Don’t we all deserve a second chance, or at the very least, a chance to work and advance ourselves through employment?

Unit 2 Creations

That’s where Unit 2 Creations comes into the picture.

Unit 2 Creations or U2C is a subsidiary of Out of Bounds Nation  and is a social enterprise legally structured as a public benefit company.  U2C is a indie publisher that will provide those individuals with a criminal past the opportunity to become entrepreneurs or obtain worthwhile employment through creative writing and audio-video production.

U2C personally knows why a second chance is so important for a successful future. All of the founders themselves were “behind the fence,” and know first- hand how difficult and challenging it is to have a criminal past while searching for employment.

The mission of U2C is simple: Empower entrepreneurial creative minds of literacy and film by providing those with a criminal past with the right programs and tools they need to become successful. We are open to all creative thinkers that are ready to put their creativity and imagination to the test beyond the confines of prison walls.

Why Support Us?

We are one of the FIRST social enterprise public benefit companies that provide individuals with a criminal past the opportunity to become entrepreneurs or obtain worthwhile employment through creative writing and audio-video production.

As a public benefit company, we have made a public declaration to provide a percentage of our profits to organizations that are in line with our mission statement.  We have identified several that are providing second chances and assisting those individuals with a criminal past become successful.

Why We Need Your Help

We are raising funds through this crowdfunding campaign to support our books, documentaries, and possibly feature shows that will help us spread awareness about what we aim to do with our platform. We have launched our 1st book, False Confessions , as well as the corresponding manual, How to Sting the Polygraph and are taking pre-orders now. They are expected to be released from our co-publisher on April 24, 2020.

False Confessions  is a true story about Doug Williams and his crusade against the Polygraph, and the multi-billion-dollar Polygraph Industry.

Doug began as a U.S. Air Force assigned as a Communications Specialist in the top security Situation Room of the White House under Presidents Johnson and Nixon. From there his career blossomed as one of the most formidable and feared Polygraph Operators in the country. He personally conducted over 6,000 polygraph examinations over a six-year period which resulted him to become the "King of the Polygraph." But then things changed. A come to Jesus moment brought Doug to reality that the government was using the polygraph to prosecute innocent people in order to keep things in order and protect 2 billion dollars lie detector industry.

Launching his forty-year crusade against the lie detector he proved the polygraph doesn't work...and ended up in prison.

In addition, we currently have several projects that are ready to be professionally edited and then published for our customers to enjoy. They are Eclectics , La Tuna and Campers . All three are books with Campers also being U2C's 1st TV project.

But we can’t do the other projects it without your help. We are lacking in the necessary funds to make these books and manuals widely accessible as well as to get the others to market. The future of our project and concept relies on marketing and awareness so people can make the choice to join our movement and spread the word.

With offices in NYC and Southern California, we want to make this a coast-to-coast movement.

If you are unable to donate at this time, we ask you to consider sharing our mission to your social media profiles. Any piece of exposure is appreciated.

Let’s change the world for those individuals who have a criminal past today. They deserve the chance, a second chance to join our economy. Thanks for your consideration.
