Help Reinaldo Pursue His Music Dream at Berklee

Here’s a message from him to you:

Thank you for taking time out of your day to learn a little bit about how you can support my journey at Berklee. My name is Reinaldo Russeaux and I am twenty years old. I am a cuban born and raised. Without a doubt, my love for learning music has played an important role in my life since I was 3 years old and started playing the congas. After a few years, at the age of 7, I participated in exams that demonstrated my aptitude and led to the official beginning of my music studies at the Guillermo Tomás Bouffartigue Conservatory where I began studying the cello at the age of 8, and a year later I began to study the trombone as well. Music has been my passion and this unusual combination of instruments has undoubtedly provided me with a broad musical panorama, ranging from classical and contemporary music to jazz, latin jazz and Cuban popular music, as a musician-instrumentalist.

Recently, I was accepted to Berklee College of Music and, as a result of my excellent performance throughout the application process,

I was granted a full tuition scholarship to attend this fall. My only concern is that the scholarship does not cover housing or a meal plan, so I am hoping to find some additional support that can help me cover these aspects to be able to attend school. It would be so hard for me if I did not get the extra help because, being from Cuba, my family has very limited resources to barely make it by each month and despite having supported my dream to study music and making many sacrifices along the way, they are unable to cover my live expenses in a foreign country and the additional costs that come with supporting my academic endeavors.

Berklee College of Music is located in Boston, Massachusetts and is known as the preeminent institute of contemporary music and the performing arts. I have dreamt of studying at Berklee College of Music for 4 years, as I feel it is the best place to continue developing my skills as a musician-instrumentalist, to nourish my knowledge of other cultures, and this dream is closer than ever!

My main goal is to continue developing my abilities on trombone and violoncello there. I have to share that I have studied these instruments with the same passion for 12 years— I really love them.

I would like to major in performance, although I have interest in composition, music business, music production and engineering, as I think that as a musician I must be prepared, and I must have an extensive knowledge about music. I want to learn everything I can!

About me I can share that in December of 2022, I won first place in the Amadeo Roldán Provincial Violoncello Competition. In January of 2023, I participated in a composition workshop held by Ted Nash in Havana, Cuba where I composed my first piece and premiered it alongside him.

Also in June of 2023 I finished my high school music studies at National School of Music , and currently I am a multi-instrumentalist member of Cuba’s National Symphonic Orchestra, and a cellist for the Música Eterna Chamber Orchestra conducted by Guido López-Gavilán.

In January 2024 I had the incredible opportunity to play trombone at Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra conducted by Arturo O’Farrill in the Jazz Plaza Festival.
