Hi, my name is Caleb Cowles and I am looking to fundraise to help with some of the costs to go race for my country at World Championships, in Plovdiv Bulgaria, on July 19-24. My pair partner, Gus Altucher, and I were roommates together during our freshman year at the University of Washington. This was the 2020-2021 season that saw social distancing practices affect a majority of our training. However this worked for our benefit by allowing us to practice this pair combination for all of the fall and winter. Then that summer racing at US Nationals and earning at 2nd place finish rounded off the season for us. Throughout the next couple of years we have hopped in the boat from time to time and have grown to appreciate the opportunity more because it is not an everyday occurrence as it was our freshman year. Getting down to business this past spring Gus crushed it and got a big win in the 3v against Yale and Brown. Then finished off the season in some close battles in the 2v against California. The end of the season did not pan out the way I hoped for, as I did not make a racing boat, but I still had the opportunity to travel with the team as a spare oarsman at the PAC-12 Championships. With a lot of opportunities lined up to race in the summer, Gus took a chance on our combination to go trials. In the end it paid off and we are excited to train hard and have our best performance in Bulgaria this summer. I am very grateful to have Gus as a friend and pair partner. I am also grateful for my parents and his parents for helping support this journey.
