PPE for the Frontlines

The team at Frontline Masks alongside Compassion Charity, a 501c non-profit entity is raising money to supply frontline responders with critical Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) so that they can stay safe and continue to save lives.  Our team is coordinating with FDA-registered suppliers across the globe to supply US healthcare workers with critical equipment. We have familiarized ourselves with the different certifications, approved manufacturers, and regulatory agencies to make sure all gear is properly vetted by us or through FDA registered suppliers.  We have also taken a hardline on price-gouging practices, only dealing with suppliers who are willing to agree to a cap above manufacturers' pricing to make sure every donated dollar is spent wisely.   100% of all donations will go towards sourcing and delivering N95 masks (and other PPE) to healthcare workers.  Join us in our cause to get the supplies our heroes desperately need. Any donation you make will make an impact. For every $25 donated, you will help keep a team of healthcare workers protected for 2 weeks.  Compassion Charity is a registered non-profit and may qualify for matching contributions from your company. First-hand accounts from the frontlines. Many of the frontline workers we talked to were hesitant to discuss their hospital process/procedures regarding PPE and would reference articles such as this for fear that there would be retaliation from their hospitals. https://www.propublica.org/article/a-nurse-bought-protective-supplies-for-her-colleagues-using-gofundme-the-hospital-suspended-her All names/hospital names are removed at the request of many of their requests. There are some hospitals that are well-stocked and have the supplies they need. There are also ones who are running very low on equipment and have rationed them to their staff.  However, they do so in a way where their staff feels un-protected. We talked to the frontlines about what their situation is and how we could help. This is what they had to say: From a COVID Intensive Care Unit (ICU) doctor: “The issue is a lot of people are getting suspended and fired from the hospital all over the country for complaining about the lack of PPE. Please don’t include my name.” “We chose to be doctors and that includes in both good times and bad. I think it’s scary that we are exposed every day when we come to work especially now that we are seeing a lot of healthcare workers and our own colleagues in as patients……. But it’s what we signed up for.” “We have been going 1-2 weeks with the same disposable masks. My wife has started buying me masks on the black market and our attendings have also started buying them for us as well.” “In an ideal world, a negative pressure room would be what we’d need. But if you could help us get some coveralls and n95’s, that would be great too.” “We’ve had issues with the hospital distributing the PPE to our doctors/staff.  If you could get them to us directly, that’d be really appreciated. If you can’t, our hospital will also take donations.” From a Respiratory Therapist: To be honest, my hospital has been quite good at supplying us with PPE. I get gear such as gloves, masks, and gowns no problem. However, I talked to a Resident Nurse at another hospital just yesterday and they are having to ration and sterilize them to re-use which is probably not safe…. The masks are meant to be used for once per patient and they wear down but they’re using them 1-2 weeks at a time”. From a Resident Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU): “We don’t have enough small n95’s and we could also use shoe covers, scrub caps, and coveralls. The hospital stopped giving them to us because they ran out. We still have some coveralls though for the moment. A lot of my co-workers and I have started to buy our own. I might need to shave my head soon instead of wearing the scrub caps.” “The coverall I’ve been re-using for the last several weeks. They get kind of gross sweating in them the whole shift. I’ve been wiping them down to sterilize and letting them dry.”
