Everyone thinks they’ll make it home to their family after a hard day at work. Unfortunately this was not the case for Roy Whittaker. On Saturday 21/03/2026, Roy was doing what he loved best, working at the River, he was completing demolition on the floor level of a second story when the flooring gave way. Roy fell 3 metres, ambulances, CFS and SAAS Medstar were called and Roy was flown to Adelaide. He has suffered a broken spine, compromised spinal cord, broken ribs, fractured skull with brain swelling and multiple brain bleeds. Throughout Saturday night Roy went into emergency surgery to repair his spinal injuries. Roy is currently in an induced coma due to his severe head injuries with his family surrounding him. This is just the beginning of Roy’s long road of recovery, he is being looked after by the best doctors and nurses in ICU. Working was Roy’s passion, he took pride in his ability to complete task at a high level, and one wrong step has affected his and his family’s lives forever.
Any contribution will be greatly appreciated by Roy and his family for his long road of recovery.
