Esther's recovery and relocation

Send her healing love and a little healing Cash!
This is Esther from Abadiania, Brazil. When I first saw her, she wouldn’t eat. She appeared traumatized (I’m pretty sure that she lost her pups) and was just taking touches and pets from strangers – somehow needing human connection and preferring it over a need for food. There was something in her eyes, and no matter how skinny and banged up she was, her tail wagged back and forth, “hope, hope, hope”…
On day three of seeing her 'hanging around' I discovered why she seemed haunted: as she rolled on her back to perhaps allow a belly rub, I saw a triangle-shaped patch of fur carved off of her chest. About 6” in width. It looks like a human did this to her. I had told friends that Esther tore my heart wide open and I felt grateful for the experience, and here her heart was nearly torn out! Why and Who!?!!?
This is a very special doggie and I’m still quite surprised by how much we’ve bonded. Because apparently a street dog’s fate is usually more grim once they’ve been connected and attached to the humans who have cared for them, I’ve made the commitment not just to get her fixed up but to create a safe, true home for her in Brooklyn, where she’ll be spoiled in our enormous park 3x a day.
I’m going to have to head home at the end of the month, while Esther stays here to fatten up, go through antibiotics, three surgeries (covering the chest area, sterilization, and a minor infection on one leg). She’ll then be transported to NYC via cargo flight by friends of Abadiania’s stray rescue community. These awesome folks have created a nonprofit that includes educating Brazilian schoolchildren about compassion for animals. I'll attach that link once it’s set up.
I’m collecting $2400.00 to cover vet and travel expenses, with $400 going to the ASPCN nonprofit that helps these dogs and their potential owners. I think it will be fun for everyone to chip in something modest, and to send Esther great healing mojo. Chunky, enormous donations are also welcome! I ask that you forward this to your animal-loving friends.
