Tzega Mesgena was born to parents Mesgena Tesfamichael and Akberet Ghebremariam on October 15, 1959 in Degra Libie.


In her childhood, Tzega completed her elementary school education in Degra Libie. She later attended middle school in Dekemhare. However, due to the unstable situation in Eritrea, she was forced to leave her country at a young age.


She escaped with her younger sister Veronica to Sudan. After a short time, they were forced to separate and Tzega departed to Italy.  Tzega then decided to leave to the United States for a better life. 


Shortly after her arrival, she met her husband Tesfamichael. They married and had two beautiful children, Bisirat and Mesmer. She was also able to start a career for herself. She worked at the Marriott Hotel in Times Square for 19 years. The work was exhausting and she often worked extra hours to give her family the best life possible.


Tzega’s dedication and hard work is unmatched. She rarely complained and was always eager to help her close and extended family. She was a loyal and warm-hearted partner. She also a caring and compassionate sister to many. 


Tzega fell ill unexpectedly and within a week, in February 22, 2021, passed away. She is survived by her husband Tesfamichael Araya and her two children Bisirat Tesfamichael and Mesmer Tesfamichael. Her presence will live with us forever. May she Rest In Peace.
