We are living in a time of terrible suffering in western Asia and now far beyond. I have been troubled by horrific images of the victims and struck by my incredible good fortune just being  Canadian. In the face of  this, like many of you I am sure, I have wanted to help but have not known what to do nor how .

As these things go – better minds than mine intervened – and now my family along with  eight others have formed a private sponsorship  group. With guidance from Lifeline Syria, we are completing the paperwork to sponsor  a  refugee family of five.

We expect the family to arrive in six months or less and have committed  to support them for one year. We will pay all living costs,  find and furnish housing, and assist with schooling, language supports and more. Collectively our group has committed to cover the cost of these things and an additional  funds as necessary to pay off debt that the family will incur for plane fare to Canada..

I am excited  and  a tad overwhelmed  and I  am reaching out to you to ask if you will consider making a financial contribution. Your dollars can  help put food on the table, boots on the feet and a roof over the heads of a family newly arriving and finally safe. No amount is too small and every dollar will go to good use.  In return, if you wish, I will put you on our news list and we will keep you updated as our journey unfolds.
