I cannot begin to tell you what this family means to me, as well as to the rest of the rescue community. The Duran Family are responsible for saving thousands of animals in Mexico. They run 24 hours a day saving animals off the street, getting them to the vet, and then finding rescues for them. They are the transporters of all of my cases (Brave Heart (pictured), Kringle, Primrose, Xena, and the list goes on and on), which should speak volumes of their character, as I will not put by cases in just anyone's hands. Over the course of the past six years, the Duran's have become my family.
Unfortunately, Julio Duran suffers from Diabetes. Last year he nearly had to have his foot amputated due to infection. While doctors thought that they had Julio's condition under control, over the past few weeks he has taken a turn for the worse. Julio was seen by a medical professional yesterday and was diagnosed with two infected feet, severe anemia, and the results from the rest of his blood panel were completely off the charts. Today, Julio was so weak that he needed immediate medical care. Upon arriving at the Red Cross, Julio was told that he needed a blood transfusion. A blood donor could not be found in a timely manner, so his wife had to purchase blood at the blood bank (remember this is Mexico). The blood was $200 and it is estimated that Julio could need up to three more treatments.
The Duran Family have a transport business and Julio does all of the driving. Obviously with Julio's condition, transports have come to a complete stop, which means they have no income, but plenty of mounting medical bills.
Friends, on behalf of myself, and non-profit organizations, Saving Huey Foundation and Scratch My Belly, we humbly ask for your help. I cannot think of two people who deserve help more. We have set a goal of $5,000 and hope that this will help pay Julio's current medical bills as well as cover the cost of blood for future transfusions.
