Bring Sheri Bokich Home
Donation protected
This is Sheri, my daughter-in-law. Last November, during Thanksgiving week, she felt ill while working and became unresponsive. She was rushed to E.R. and then flown to Boise for open-heart surgery. During the surgery, her aorta ripped, blood pooled around her heart rather than pumping to her brain, and she had multiple strokes causing massive brain damage. She remained in critical condition and on a respirator for about 6 weeks. Thanks to modern medicine, everyone's prayers, and her strength, she regained consciousness and can speak. She was admitted to Craig Hospital in Denver in February. They are a rehabilitation and research institute specializing in spinal cord and brain injuries.

She's still at Craig, and they've been fantastic. She has daily therapies like physical and speech and more. She can now feed herself, although she is paralyzed on her left side and will require a wheelchair. She has gaps in her memory. For example, she was surprised at how grown up her 14 and 17-year-old sons are. Whenever I talk to her, she displays her great sense of humor. Here's a picture of her first outing in April with Iverson and 5 medical attendants.

But now it's time to bring her home. Here is what we hope to accomplish.
- Bring her to a rehabilitation/nursing-home where she will continue to undergo therapies. Average cost will be approximately $9,000/month. My son's insurance will not cover more than a couple more weeks in a rehabilitation/nursing home.
- Apply for Medicaid, which they cannot do unless Sheri is physically in Idaho. If she qualifies they will have to wait for it to kick in.
- Bring her home to live. To do this, he will need to find handicap-accessible housing or modify his home, a handicap-accessible vehicle, and daytime care.

Please consider helping Sheri get home and settled.
Thank you.
