Helping Drew
Hey friends! I decided to take this upon myself and see if we can collectively help out Drew Schnedl. For those who don't know him, Drew works at Safeway on Bernal and grew up in the Bay Area.
A little backstory on Drew - A few years ago, Drew had a new place and a new job he was starting, at the same time. He loaded up a van and was heading out to his new place when he received an unexpected call telling him the place fell through. Then, right after that happened, he received another call telling him his job fell through. Can you imagine? Since that day, he has had a really tough time trying to find a place to call "home." It's not like he hasn't been trying either. Fortunately he landed a job at Safeway but had spent 6 months living in his car at the Walmart parking lot with his emotional support dog, Daisy. Daisy was getting up there in age and unfortunately, Drew lost Daisy too. One of the hardest things he has ever gone through. So in a short time, he lost his home and his dog. One other thing about Drew is, he suffers from PTSD so you can only imagine the heartache from losing his Daisy.
Drew would save every penny he could, but as you can imagine, living in your car, you don't have access to those things we all take for granted. Drew would pay for a room at a motel when he wanted to take a shower and get a really good night's rest and the cost to do that is not inexpensive. He used this option sparingly. Throughout all this, Drew was consistently looking for a place to rent but time after time, it just wasn't working out. Finally, someone responded and Drew at the end of 2019 and he landed in a place in Livermore on 01/01/2020. The woman he was renting from had lost her husband recently and subleased a room to Drew. She had lived in this apartment for a couple of decades and paid below market value. Drew's room came furnished and it was a great situation. Until.... the beginning of Oct, his roommate informed Drew she had cancer and unfortunately, she passed away within three weeks. His roommates son told Drew he could have all the furniture and even the TV that was in his room. He won't be able to stay there since the landlord will be changing the rent to match what the going market rate is now. Drew is now looking again for a new home to call his own. He found a perfect place in Pleasanton that he can afford but the security deposit is $2,500.00 and the rent is $1,700.00. He has $2,000.00 in his account right now. I would hate to see him spend another winter in his car. It's so sad to think how many of us are working good, full time jobs but are living pay check to pay check. I know he is not unique but he is one of us. I just can't sit idle and not try and help him out. He did not ask me to do this for him as he is way too humble to do that. I offered in hopes that we can help him out. Drew is definitely an open book so whatever I am sharing here is something he has spoken about publicly before.
If you can spare even $10.00, I know he would be forever grateful for that. And if you can't, that is okay too. If you can share this post with your friends and help me get the word out, I would really appreciate that. Any amount will be helpful! Thank you from the bottom of my heart
