Lung Transplant Fund
Orick is currently in Houston Texas awaiting a Lung Transplant. His family needs help with the cost of being there. There are currently multiple expenses for his family to continue living there and waiting for the transplant. They need help with the funds to continue staying in the Ronald McDonald house, food, gas, and bills that his mother is acquiring. He is in Houston with his mom and siblings and they are in desperate need of financial support. Please read his story below.
Orick was born at Rogue Valley Medical Center in July or 2004 when his mother was only 26 weeks along. He arrived only 1lbs and 2ozs and 26 inches long. His mother was told he would probably not live through the night. They only gave him a 10% surviving chance. So they delivered him and he did make it through the night. In September of 2004 Orick was flown to Portland sill in the N.I.C.U to have a heart surgery. Orick started to improve even more! Then one day it all took a turn for the worst. Orick went into cardiac arrest twice within 1 hour. That same night the right half of his body was a very yellow and the other half very white. You could see the line straight down his body. The doctors said this was because his body was without oxygen for so long that his organs were starting to shut down. They asked his parents to take him off life support and sign a D.N.R. because he was brain dead. His mommy refused to do this until they could give her solid proof! She told them she wanted a brain scan to determine if there was any damage done. That night several people joined in a little hallway outside of the N.I.C.U. to join in a prayer chain. Later that same night his color went back to normal. The doctors performed the brain scan a few days later, and to our dismay it came back just fine. Orick was finally released from the N.I.C.U December 15th 2004. For the next two years he was on oxygen. He was also in and out of the hospital and to Portland for many surgery’s. He has done very well the past two years. A couple of minor surgery’s but he is doing great! In November of 2013 his glaucoma started to get the best of him. His pressure was very high. So in January of 2015 Orick had his eye removed. He received a prosthetic eye and honestly you would never know!!. Shortly after this he was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension of the hear. There are only a few medications that can help with this particular disease. If none of them work the typical life span at diagnosis is 2 years. Of course our little Hero decided none would work for him except the very last one, but hey it’s working!! Orick and Stephanie travel often to Portland and Eugene to meet with Cardiologists, Pulmonologist and for testing. In 2017 he was life flighted to OHSU for Pneumonia. Things were very difficult for the family then to. The doctors suggested he go on Hospice but his mom wanted to fight, and fight they did! He has had the best year of his life!! Now here we are 2018 and Orick has Pneumonia again, life flighted again, fighting for his life again! He was in critical condition and put in a coma to help him survive. There were multiple times we almost lost him, but once again our fighter beat all the odds! This spring he traveled with his family down to Houston Texas to meet the transplant team and undergo testing to see if he qualified for a Lung Transplant. He was approved and his mom and siblings headed down to Houston in mid September to be put on the transplant list October 1st.
