Eli's Brain Surgery

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Madeline Fulton and I'm fundraising to help my sister cover the expenses of her youngest son's upcoming brain surgery and rehab.
Eli, started having seizures at the age of 5. At first they would occur randomly every now and then but as he's gotten older they have gotten worse. In 2021 he had a Vagus Nerve Stimulator inserted to help manage his seizures that were occurring several times a day. It helped for a while but in May of 2023 he started to have them 30+ times a day. Meds were adjusted, medical Marijuana was introduced but they continued to get worse and the effects of them were lasting longer and longer. He began losing control of the left side of his body shortly after. This resulted in left side paralysis. He's had so many bad falls that the doctors gave him a wheel chair to avoid any more injuries. After 3 hospital stays at Shands in Gainesville he was diagnosed with Rasmussen Encephalitis. A truly heartbreaking, very rare diagnosis with life altering impact on his quality of life. It was recommended that he undergo a Hemispherectomy. Making the decision to separate the right side of his brain in hopes of giving him a better quality of life is not one to take lightly. As a family we've prayed, done countless hours of research, showed up to his appointments to drill the doctors to arm ourselves with as much information as we possibly can. Without this surgery he will continue to have seizures that will have lasting effects on his mobility, mental state and permanent inflammation of the brain (Encephalitis).
Eli is 12 years old and deserves to be able to live his best life. He is truly the funniest kid you'll ever meet.
His surgery is scheduled for February 13th. He will be in the hospital for 2 weeks before moving to an inpatient rehab facility down in Orlando.
This is where we need financial help to cover the cost of all his medical expenses plus living expenses. My sister will not be able to work for at least 6 months in order to care for Eli as they navigate this world of unknowns. Since they are separating the right side of his brain he will have paralysis of the left side of his body and have to learn to do life in a whole new way.
God is great and we feel his presence in all of this.
