Hi! My name is Alex and I am raising funds for my significant other, Jeff Waltke. Some of you reading this may already know that Jeff has been sick and out of work for some time now. Jeff has been sick for a few months but on July 16th, Jeff took a turn for the worse and was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center. We learned that he was in kidney failure, liver failure, he had a blood clot in his portal vein and he was in very bad shape. Since July, he has been in and out of the hospital and getting worse. Jeff has end stage liver disease. The liver is normally a sponge like organ that filters out our blood and toxins in our bodies. With liver disease the liver becomes very hard, not allowing blood to flow properly and causing toxins to build up in the body. With Jeff’s liver no longer working, it’s causing a plethora of other issues in his body making him very sick. Jeff recently underwent a transplant evaluation at Indiana University Health and I am so happy to say that he was approved to be put on the list for a liver transplant. We are hopeful that he will get a new liver soon but until then there are a lot of expenses that have accumulated from medical bills to medication co pays and living expenses. Since IU is a few hours from our house, we have been and will be staying in airbnbs close to the hospital. His medications are also expensive even after insurance. And the medical bills keep coming in. Jeff is one of the kindest people with a huge heart. He loves to give and be there for others. He has always been a hard worker and it has been hard on him to accept help from the people that love him. This entire situation happened so fast and financially, it’s nerve wracking to look into the future. Even after Jeff receives his transplant, we will have to stay local to the hospital as he will have 2-3 appointments a week for a few months. He also will need to be on expensive immunosuppressant medication for the rest of his life. Even if you can’t donate, words of encouragement and prayers are so appreciated!
