Tyson Fowler’s Conquering Lyme

Tyson is currently fighting late-stage Chronic Neurological Lyme Disease. He began to see symptoms in March of 2011 in the form of muscle fatigue and atrophy in his arms and legs. He went from using a cane to requiring a wheelchair in a matter of months and after a year and a half of tests, empirical treatments and endless doctors visits, Tyson was eventually diagnosed with Lyme. However, because of the many inaccurate Lyme tests, which deterred them from finding a diagnosis for almost two years, the bacteria was able to wreak havoc throughout his body, in particular in his motor neurons, and ultimately began to mimic the signs and symptoms of ALS. He is currently undergoing a Lyme antibiotic and stem cell therapy protocol which, in addition to aggressive in-home physical and respiratory therapy, have been effective in slowing the progression of this rapidly paced disease.


In February of 2015, Tyson suffered a cardiac arrest, a direct result of the swift and vicious nature of his illness. His heart stopped for 35 minutes. Miraculously, Tyson survived and did so with no resulting damage to his heart, brain, or lungs. He is now fully dependent on a ventilator, from which he is actively working to wean. He has a feeding tube for nutrition and a PICC line for IV antibiotics and hydration. Despite the obstacles he has faced, Tyson remains remarkably strong and focused on his recovery.


Tyson is an incredible husband and a loving father to two beautiful boys. He is a son, a brother, and uncle, and a friend to so many.
