In March 2017, after struggling through several months of not feeling well and then falling seriously ill with pneumonia and a urinary tract infection, my friend Tyrone was diagnosed with a high-risk variant of blood cancer, known as Multiple Myeloma. Additionally, he was also found to have multiple compression fractures of his spine, kidney failure, and anemia and was given a 26-month survival prognosis. All of these ailments were a result of multiple myeloma, where the volume of healthy bone marrow is displaced by (useless) cancerous plasma cells. This causes a person to become severely immuno-compromised and shuts down their bone regeneration process and speeds up their bone breakdown process. Also, the cancerous plasma cells end up in the bloodstream and wreak havoc on your kidneys trying to filter them out.

Ty has valiantly fought through many bouts of sickness and bone fractures. Twice he has had end-stage renal failure, which required several months of dialysis each time. His cancer remains refractory to treatment and continues to degrade Ty's bones. He is highly Osteopenic and can fracture a bone just moving around and has over 10 inches of height due to vertebral fractures.

Previous to the cancer trauma, he was a healthy, active person and enjoyed running, competitive cycling, snowboarding, surfing, and rock climbing.

When diagnosed Ty was unable to continue working as a Journeyman Air Conditioning Mechanic.

Despite all of his health challenges, Ty continues to be a loving and devoted Dad to his 2 young sons, spending as much time as possible with them.

We are trying to raise money so Ty can settle his estate, set up his burial, fix his car, and treat his boys to some memorable experiences.
