Tyrell Wood memorial scholarship

On May 18, 2022 our lives changed forever, Tyrell passed away suddenly at the age of 19. Tyrell was a loving son and brother to Shanieka, Aaliyah and Marcus. Tyrell left behind many friends, family and teammates that he had over the years. Anyone that was lucky enough to know Tyrell would know his love of playing basketball. Tyrell started playing house league with Durham City Basketball Association at 6 years old and went on to play rep in grade 2 and continued playing with DCBA throughout high school.

Tyrell also played for J Clark Richardson during his years in high school, he would never miss an opportunity to play. He would play and train with his brother and sisters in the driveway and come out to watch them at their games. As we struggle to come to terms with how a strong, athletic, 19 year old who was never sick could pass away so suddenly from an undiagnosed heart condition, we are choosing to celebrate and honour Tyrell.

Today as we celebrate Tyrell’s first birthday in Heaven, we ask that in honour of Tyrell that you would donate what you can to build a basketball scholarship in his name. Durham City Basketball Association was a huge part of his life as well as his siblings, so we are launching a scholarship in Tyrell’s name to assist a player from the organization that is going on to continue their education. All money raised will be used to continue giving out annually to help as many athletes as we can. We ask that you keep him in your heart, keep talking about him, remember all the laughs and good times you had with him❤️
