Tynlee is an 11 year old girl from Mize, MS. On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, Tynlee was on the four wheeler at her dads. When she parked and got off she said her legs got tingly like they were going to sleep. From the time Tynlee made it inside, she got a sharp pain in her back and her legs and arms went numb.
Tynlee was rushed to Blair E. Batsons children hospital where she was IMMEDIATELY taken to the back. Tynlee was searched head to toe for ticks. After hours and multiple searches from different dr’s and nurses no ticks were found and they decided to take the next step.
Tynlee was taken for a MRI, where they found a (very) tiny spot on her spine at T6. The doctor was puzzled because Tynlee lost feeling at C1. We were then told Tynlee would need a LP (lumbar puncture) to check for any infections in her spinal fluid.
Tynlee was then sent to the PICU. Once in PICU, it was determined, her spinal fluid showed no infections. Blood work also showed no infections. They immediately started treating Tynlee for Gillian Barre’ Syndrome with infusions for 5 days. Her doctor still was not convinced this was the case because Tynlee had some issues mainly on her right side more than her left.
On Saturday July 13,Tynlee was put in a regular room. She did a repeat MRI on Monday. That MRI showed Tynlee had a stroke in her spinal cord.
Tynlee has gained back feeling in her arms and hands. She can feel you touching her, but can not move her legs or toes when instructed too. They are trying to get Tynlee in with Rehab. She will also have to have aggressive inpatient physical therapy.
This is hard on anyone but even harder on Tynlee. She is only 11 and has her entire life ahead of her. She is so outgoing, and this is going to be a major change for her.
