About The Film
The story of ‘Tymek’ explores the themes of identity and the immigrant experience in a coming of age film setting. It’s about the feelings that come with immigrating such as frustration, isolation and loneliness. The emotions felt by immigrants are authentically portrayed on the screen by our largely immigrant crew and cast. There is no single ‘immigrant story’ ; the experience is diverse, shaped by individual perspectives, circumstances, and responses to change. With Tymek, we hope to show that complexity and offer a more nuanced portrayal of what it’s really like to be an immigrant, to navigate the space between two worlds.

The Production
The production is a collaboration of many students across different years in the National Film School in Dun Laoghaire. It is a passion project shared between people of different nationalities and backgrounds.

Director’s Statement
My name is Patryk Lukaszewski. I’m a 4th year Directing student at the National Film School in Dun Laoghaire. I was born in Poland and moved to Ireland in 2006. The story of Tymek is one I’ve always wanted to tell. When applying to IADT, I mentioned wanting to create a film that would act as a “bridge between Poland and Ireland.” This film is that bridge. My first few years in Ireland were very difficult. I often felt like I didn’t belong, and the lack of Polish culture and media only amplified that sense of isolation. I felt alone, exposed, and lost. These feelings are what inspired me to make Tymek—a film about Polish people in Ireland, a narrative that, despite the significant Polish population here, is still rarely explored.
I want to delve into the emotions that many immigrants experience, particularly the sense of being displaced and misunderstood. It’s incredibly important to me that the emotions felt by so many immigrants are authentically portrayed on screen. I want to offer a nuanced view of the immigrant experience, which is why our film presents the contrasting perspectives of Father and
Son.

Producer statement
My name is Jodie Fearon, and I am the producer of Tymek. Currently, I am in my fourth year at the National Film School in Dún Laoghaire. While I am Irish, I am deeply committed to amplifying diverse stories like Tymek. As a producer, one of my key goals is to foster collaboration within the crew, ensuring every element of the project reflects our shared vision.
We are incredibly grateful for any support you can offer, whether it's by sharing our project with others or contributing a small donation. The funds will be allocated across various departments as we prepare to film in Ballyshannon, County Donegal. Contributions will help us cover essential costs such as accommodating our cast and crew, providing hot meals on set, and enhancing our production design to create an immersive world that aligns with our vision.
Your support means the world to us, funding our creative making a tangible difference in realizing this film.

Final Words
We want to thank everybody who decide to help us on this journey of making our film. As this film is entirely self funded you are helping us MASSIVELY with any donation you can make at
