Tyler's Recovery- Brain Surgery Journey
Donation protected
Tyler needs our help! I am Kayla, a friend of Kim & Michele Wimmer, and their son Tyler Hodge. This fundraiser is created to help lighten the load for the most deserving people I know, during the most daunting days of their life. This family is always there going above and beyond for EVERYONE else and NOW this is a time where we can really make a difference if we all pull together.
Tyler is having MAJOR brain surgery!
Tyler is having MAJOR brain surgery!
These contributions will IMMENSELY help tackle the upcoming costs of travel, hospital stays (several hours away from home), room & board, and many hidden/surprise extras along the way. Tyler has had an abundance of procedures and surgeries in his lifetime, he is no stranger to the O.R... but this one is huge!
He relies entirely on the care of his family in his day to day life, therefore this is requiring them to rearrange all of their lives for a long stretch of time. He has outgrown the child wing of hospitals and surgery centers (where they can sometimes help provide a parent/guardian a place to stay) so this will help relieve some of those unnecessary worries and expenses
BACKSTORY:
"Tyler is having major brain surgery. Some of his history in that is he had a huge stroke at birth…which essentially left a large dead area on the left side of his brain. This is why he has cerebral palsy & a significant seizure disorder. He has more than one kind of seizures. Tyler takes 3 different meds just to try to control them & he still has many break through seizures….pretty much weekly, therefore the need to up one med every 3 months just to help is at the point of exhausting itself. They’ll remove the top lobe & bottom lobe of the left side of his brain and disconnect one side from the other. Basically, he’ll have just one functioning side of his brain. Surgery will be 8+ hours and he’ll have a titanium plate placed on one side with his skull after. He’ll be in the hospital 2 weeks+ and then return for several recovery visits for the first year as well as weekly therapies here, etc. He’ll never walk again…we already know that now from several years ago and he’ll likely be even weaker on his cp side after surgery…possibly going back to needing full assistance with transferring, diapers, hoyer lifting, etc. BUT they feel he will gain back to where he’s at or slightly weaker with therapies. Also, he won’t be seizure free, but down to one med that controls them completely (which is considered “seizure free”). We will see as he recovers.
Any and all contributions will for ever be appreciated! "
