TYLER KOENIG'S FIGHT FOR LIFE
Donation protected
Many family and friends have reached out to us asking how they can help Tyler, who is currently home on Hospice, fighting for his life. We decided to start a Go Fund Me account to help with his medical and living expenses.
We are thankful Jonny has been able to take vacation time from work to stay home with Tyler as he needs 24/7 care. Unfortunately, Jonny's vacation time is running out, and he will have to take FMLA (family medical leave), which is unpaid. We would appreciate any assistance you can give financially to help pay their rent, utilities, medical bills, groceries, etc.
Tyler's Story:
Tyler was diagnosed with liver disease in February of 2020. We are so proud that he battled through his alcoholism and celebrated one year of sobriety this past March. In February, Tyler fell and ended up in the hospital on Valentine's Day. A cat scan revealed he had suffered a brain bleed. Tyler spent several days in the ICU, progressive care, and acute physical therapy. He wasn't getting any better, so the doctors did another cat scan, and it showed he had fluid on the brain. Tyler had to have a burr hole surgery to relieve the pressure/fluid off of his brain. Several days later, he had a grand mall seizure. Due to hepatic encephalopathy (toxins from the liver going to the brain), the brain bleed, and the seizure, Tyler suffered brain damage, affecting his cognitive thinking.
We had prayed that Tyler could have a liver transplant. After nearly a two-month hospital stay with multiple blood, platelet, and plasma transfusions, the doctors determined he was too sick and would not survive a transplant. We had a family meeting with the trauma team, and it was decided it was best to send him home on Hospice.
On April 8th, we celebrated Tyler being brought home to his apartment via ambulance. Hospice was there to greet us and get everything set up that they would need to care for him at home.
Tyler was helped on the gurney by the ambulance crew and medical staff.
Unloading him at his apartment
A hospital bed was set up in his bedroom. Happy to
see their cat, Precious, after a two month
stay in the hospital
Tyler's daughter, Ayla, visited him while
in the hospital. She gave him a bear, and
they named it Pokey.
Our family appreciates your love and support. Your prayers, phone calls, texts, visits, and hugs are helping us thru a challenging time. We are grateful to you!! Love to you all.
The Koenig Family
We are thankful for the care he received at Bryan West Hospital during his two-month stay. Many days, he required a nurse or CNA to be in his room 24/7. It was comforting for us when we left his room every night to know that he was being well taken care of.
Tyler's favorite aide was Jillian. She was absolutely beyond incredible. There were days she spent her entire 12-hour shift with him.
Tyler's favorite physical therapist, Tess, would come to his room whenever she was working to see if he was having a good day so she could take him for a walk. Some days it was just from his bed to the door of his room, and on his good days, they enjoyed a walk around the unit.
Jillian and Tess by Tyler's bedside the day he was discharged. They were telling him good-bye and were there to help load him on the gurney. Love these gals!
