Hello my name is Tyler Lutz and I’m a USA Skeleton Athlete in hopes of competing in the 2030&2034 Winter Games.
You’re probably wondering what skeleton is? It’s a high speed winter sport where you push a sled as fast as you can and jump on head first, sliding down an ice chute, reaching speeds of up to 90mph.
I had first heard about Skeleton from a strength coach named Chad, just a few months after I had initially quit track and field due to the passing of my Dad. I had promised my Dad that someday I would make it to the Olympics and after I gave up, God placed this opportunity in my hands. I’ve never really felt like I’ve belonged in any sports I’ve played growing up, but I’ve always known that I’ve been gifted the athletic ability to do great things. This is the first time I’ve felt like I belong thanks to my awesome teammates and staff within USA Bobsled/Skeleton.
Since then I have been to multiple camps, doing everything I can to get better at this sport. Turns out I have a natural talent for the push start which has made me extremely hopeful, but that’s only half the battle. The other half is driving the sled which can take years to master, so I’m in this sport for the long haul.
This year I’m fortunate enough to get the opportunity to compete in the NAC or the North American Cup. Which means I’ll be needing to travel to Park City in Utah, Whistler in Canada, and Lake Placid in NY a lot this season, which can get costly.
I’m currently working on reaching out to companies/small businesses and trying to get more media exposure in hopes of easing the financial burden on myself. And all I can do is ask for help, which if you know me, I hate to do.
The funds will be strictly used for travel, equipment, training, and membership cost.
Thank you to everyone that has donated so far, your kindness has really impacted me and has allowed me to get closer to my dream.
I’ll update all race results below and follow my socials to keep up with my skeleton progress.
