Tyler's Team!

My dear friend and coworker Jenna Huey, gave birth to her son Tyler Jacob Huey on October 3rd at Abington Hospital. Since then Tyler has been in the NICU and on October 20th was transferred to Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Children's Hospital in Wilmington, DE for further treatment and care. Jenna and her husband Jake make the hour plus journey to and from Levittown to Wilmington everyday to be with their baby boy. Big sister Emma has been patiently waiting to meet "baby Tyler"!

Prior to Tyler's birth, Jenna had experienced unexplainable weight gain and at 32 weeks pregnant was forced to switch her OB care to Abington Associates in hopes of finding answers. After numerous tests it was found that Tyler had fluid in both lungs. A specialist of Fetal Diagnostics at Abington was able to complete 2 procedures to drain fluid from Tyler's lungs while Jenna was still pregnant. At 35 weeks it was decided that Tyler should be born in order to give him the best treatment and care possible.

Tyler has been diagnosed with Chylothorax (fluid in the chest cavity), due to a rare condition of his lymphatic system that didn't fully develop. Because of Tyler's partial thoracic duct, his body is unable to circulate fluid correctly and as a result fluid fills into his chest cavity. Currently he has chyle fluid draining out of his 3 chest tubes, edema from the chest up and need for respiratory support. Nurses are unable to feed him because his body cannot process and digest fats appropriately, so for now he gets his nutrition through the pic line in his leg. A procedure called Lymphatic Embolization was completed to help close some of the pathways in hopes that his body will make new ones in order to drain fluid into his venous system. Although this treatment was helpful it will need to be completed again. Unfortunately, doctors and specialists are unable to determine the amount of time Tyler will have to spend in hospital.

During this season of giving, please consider contributing to this young family and pray for their sweet baby's recovery! It is my hope that this campaign can help alleviate some of the burden of hospital bills, travel and unpaid leave so that Jenna and Jake can focus all of their energy on their family and Tyler's recovery!
