On the night of June 2nd, 2018, my brother Tyler was assaulted in downtown Sacramento. He and a friend were walking to a hotel when 1 of 4 men came up behind Tyler and punched him hard on the left side of his face. Tyler went down and slammed his head and face on the ground. The men ran away, but not before taking a picture of Tyler unconscious on the ground. No words were exchanged or altercation took place, so as far as we know it was a random attack. His friend called 911 and Tyler was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, where he was then taken to the ER and later to the surgical ICU.
Once at the hospital, Tyler was intubated and went through multiple CT scans where they monitored bleeding on his brain, which at first grew but was later seen to decrease in size on the third scan. He also underwent multiple procedures and had the corner of his eye opened to try to release pressure. They determined that Tyler's left cheekbone and eye socket were broken and he would need facial surgery as soon as the swelling on his eye went down. At this point we did not know whether they would need to perform brain surgery as well, if he had permanent brain damage, or if he would ever have vision in his left eye again. He slowly became more aware and was taken to surgery on the following Tuesday, where the fracture was repaired and titanium plates were placed that will stay with him for life. After that, he slowly began to heal at the hospital and in home. He has had multiple doctor's appointments (surgical team follow-ups, ophthalmologist, primary care) every week since then. He was not cleared to go back to work until this week.
Tyler has made an almost full recovery and we are so thankful that nothing worse happened and that he has healed so well. He would never ask for anything from us, but the medical bills are coming in and needless-to-say, it is overwhelming. While he has medical insurance, it is not the best and on top of that, was not for the hospital he was taken to. I know there is so much going on in the world right now, but this was truly senseless and has affected his life in so many ways. Any contribution would be very much appreciated and would go to help pay his medical bills. Also, if you somehow come across any pictures or videos of something like this on the internet, please let me know. There is an open police investigation but not much information to go on. We have heard of similar attacks so please be safe out there! Thank you so much. xo

Before being released from hospital.
Now...on the mend!
