On Friday October 31st my brother-in-law Tyler Freel was seriously hurt while traveling for work in Idaho. He has numerous broken bones, internal organ damage, and internal bleeding he is fighting thru. He was medivaced via helicopter to a trauma center in Boise, where he is currently under emergency surgery. My sister Faith is traveling down to be with him. This is going to be a long road to recovery for their family and it would be a great time for us family and friends to rally around them in prayers and financial support. Thank you for loving on them in this hard time.
11/3/2025 Just a little update for everyone, from Faith:
Tyler had a great day yesterday, and even managed a couple stairs. We were hoping to dishcharge today, possibly. But last night he had more difficulty breathing and needed more oxygen so this morning we did a chest x ray and found a full pneumo on the left side, probably punctured from the broken ribs. So he got a chest tube placed this morning and his trauma surgeon is recommending another surgery in a day or two, to plate his broken ribs, with VATS procedure, and some cryoablation.
Unfortunately with a pneumo, they are recommending he not fly for at least a month. So we are just taking that in right now, and figuring out how I can best be here for him and home for the kids. I’ll likely get him out of the woods here and then try to go home and be with the kids until he’s ready to come back home. Or maybe we buy a car and drive home. Just figuring it out a day at a time.
That being said, we are both SO grateful and humbled by all the kind offers of help and love and encouragement. We are definitely feeling the love and prayers. I’m thankful the kids are safe and loved on while we are gone. The go fund me that my brother started is also a huge weight off my chest. It will be a long road, but all things considered, Tyler and I are both feeling super thankful. God is good, and I’m so glad we can rest easy knowing that He’s in control.
11/4 Update: Update for you dear friends: Tyler’s surgery was successful, but they did find a rib that was impaled in his lung, so he needed a partial lung resection. Most of his ribs of the left side were able to be repaired though (anterior and posterior) and everything was cleaned up.
11/5 update: Thanks for all the prayers and love. It’s been a rough couple days. Tyler’s too tired to respond to you all right now, but I’m reading him some of your many encouraging texts and that brings a smile, and he’s been able to talk to a couple of people. It’s hard to see him hurting, but having so many people be so supportive makes this so much more bearable.
Taking comfort that while I may be reeling, none of this is surprising to my God. Reminding myself every minute that He loves Tyler (and our kids) more than I do, and I can trust and rely on Him right in the middle of this pain.
I’m wearing both our wedding rings until he can put his back on again.
