Gord's Story

In June of 2015 Gord was diagnosed with colon cancer. Surgery was performed and intravenous chemotherapy was recommended.

Unfortunately, during the first treatment Gord suffered a severe allergic reaction, and was told that he could never have that drug again. He was however able to finish his treatment with 7 months of oral chemotherapy.

In July of 2017 a reoccurrence was determined. This time radiation and oral chemo was taken prior to undergoing surgery. Surgery, this time major, was performed once again. Due to the extent and complexities of the second surgery, Gord has been unable to return to his previous occupation. Over the course of the next year and a half, progress seemed good and things were looking up.

Sadly, that was short lived – as routine testing in February 2019 showed that his cancer is back. This time stage 4, inoperable, and no cure. Treatment options here are extremely limited, the oncologist has informed us that without treatment Gord has approximately 6 months to live. With treatment, perhaps 12 months. A grim and seemingly hopeless prognosis either way.

There is another cancer treatment – although not available here in Canada, and not covered by any insurance. IPT – Insulin Potentiation Therapy.

IPT is a time tested, modified form of chemotherapy that has been used successfully and safely around the world for more than 70 years. It is also known as IPTLD or Insulin Potentiation Therapy Low Dose. This treatment uses between 10% and 25% of the dosage of a conventional chemotherapy regime. It provides a safer, much gentler alternative to conventional chemotherapy, without the hard side effects. When combined with complementary therapies to nurture the body, it is also more effective.

This treatment is offered in Mexico.

Gord will require at minimum an initial 21 day treatment. The cost for those 21 days is $9000.00 USD, plus $1300.00 USD PER chemo treatment. This is an outpatient program, thus accommodations, meals, and other day to day expenses will also be incurred. It’s also extremely hard to do this alone. Unfortunately given the circumstances, Gord’s wife Cindy is not able to afford to take any time off of work to be by his side. We’d like to ensure that she could at least take a week or two without the risk or worry of the financial burden that would cause.

At this point there is no way to determine if Gord will require more treatment than the initial 21 days, or how many treatments he will require while he is there.

Your donations will be used towards treatment and applicable expenses both in Mexico and at home. We ask that if you are unable to donate, please share this gofundme so we are able to reach as many people as possible.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

The family of Gord Painchaud
