TYA cancer services at the Beatson!

My name's Becca and I'm a third year medical student at the University of Glasgow. As part of this @uofglasgow Instagram takeover, I'm raising money in honour of Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) Cancer Awareness Month!

This is something which has been close to my heart for a really long time, after one of my close friends unfortunately passed away due to cancer several years ago. They were always passionate about fundraising for the incredible charities that supported them and their family throughout, and this is a legacy which I'm determined to continue.

Having recently completed a placement at the TYA unit at the Beatson, I have witnessed firsthand (and will hopefully have shown you during the takeover!) the amazing team their and their unwavering dedication to the young people in their care, as well as their loved ones. Nurse specialists, doctors, physiotherapists, Young Lives vs Cancer social workers... this unit is indispensable in helping young people with cancer reconstruct their lives after such a devastating diagnosis. However, they can't do this without our help.

Your donations are a lifeline maintaining the unit's ability to look after all aspects of young people's lives, ensuring they are full supported during such a difficult period. Recently, the unit was able to use funds raised to provide all young people admitted with a free Comfort Tote Bag, containing items to increase their comfort during their hospital stay. Absolutely everything helps and is greatly appreciated!
