An Update - 12th June 2025!
Phase 1: Emergency Relief – Together
Thanks to your generosity, we raised over €2,000 to support direct emergency relief in hard-hit rural areas. With the first wave of funds, we’ve already helped facilitate:
- Rebuilding a home in the Inle Lake region
- Providing food aid for over 170 people, including rice, oil, and canned goods
- Sanitation support, including building a toilet facility for MyoutMyaing village
- All purchases and distributions were managed by trusted, local leaders and volunteers, with full transparency (receipts published publicly below)
Your donations have reached the people. Directly. No bureaucracy.
Phase 2: Rebuilding With Purpose — What’s Next
We are now transitioning this fundraiser from emergency response to long-term rebuilding.
The needs in Myanmar are still urgent—but they’re evolving especially as the country is now in rainy season which makes efforts more challenging!
Communities are asking for:
Rebuilding homes and shelters for displaced families
Access to clean water & sanitation infrastructure
Educational and medical resources to restore basic services
Sustainable tools and support to help families recover their livelihoods and mental health
All future funds raised will go toward grassroots-led, community-centered rebuild projects and will be distributed through ThR5VE - our selected trusted charity on the ground.
The BACKSTORY
Why I’m Fundraising for Myanmar
My name is Elaine Kelly , originally from Ireland. In 2013 and 2014, I lived in Myanmar while helping to launch ICT infrastructure across the country. That time became one of the most transformational experiences of my life.
The kindness, resilience, and joy of the Burmese people touched me in ways I still carry with me today. I was a foreigner, yet I was welcomed like family. Now, they are in crisis—and I cannot sit back and do nothing and this is your invitation to help too.
On March 28th, 2025, a catastrophic 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar and parts of Northern Thailand. Entire villages have been flattened. Thousands have lost their lives. Families are displaced, homes destroyed, and infrastructure shattered—at a time when the country is already under extreme political and humanitarian strain.
Since the 2021 military coup, Myanmar has been in a state of civil unrest, with many areas effectively cut off from government services or international aid.
Historically, during disasters like Cyclone Nargis or the 2004 Tsunami, the military regime has refused global assistance, leaving local NGOs and citizen volunteers to handle massive emergencies with little to no resources. The same pattern is happening again now.
This is a crisis on top of a crisis, the people of Myanmar are exhausted —and those on the ground need our help.
Who I Am & My Connection
I’m a Business Mentor and Entrepreneur, and during my time living in Myanmar, I worked closely with the local community and built relationships that I still have contact with and who are seeking support from the international community.
One of those contacts—a trusted Burmese woman who has stepped up to lead relief coordination—is now working directly with small, grassroots NGOs and community volunteers to distribute aid to the worst-hit areas. These are not international organizations; these are locals helping locals.
Where the Funds Will Go
I am raising funds globally through this GoFundMe page and personally routing all donations to my verified contacts who are on the ground working with a local network of NGOs and community organizers in Myanmar.
The money will be used solely for emergency relief, including:
- Temporary shelter for families who have lost their homes
- Food and clean drinking water
- Medical supplies for wounded and ill survivors
- Essential rescue tools and supplies for local volunteers
Transparency & Accountability
All transfers of donations will be shared publicly for full transparency. I want you as a donor to know your money is reaching people who need it and not being used on administration fees etc.
Final Words
Myanmar is often forgotten in global media—but I haven’t forgotten the love and generosity I was shown when I lived there. Now, it’s our time to show up and support a community that is crying out for help. Please share and help raise awareness for a country and nation that is always forgotten about.
Every donation matters. Every share makes a difference.
Thank you for standing with Myanmar in this time of heartbreak and hope.
