August 1st, 2024, is a day my family will never forget. My father experienced a life-threatening incident while at work that doctors at Bristol Regional Medical Center have described as a freak accident. He collapsed suddenly and was without oxygen for 10 to 15 minutes, requiring resuscitation twice upon the arrival & transport to the hospital by the medical team.

Today, August 11th, after nearly two weeks in the ICU, he has been moved to the intermediate ICU. He is expected to remain there for another 3 to 7 days. Unfortunately, we are facing challenges with Workers' Compensation, which is disputing coverage by alleging a preexisting condition. This has placed an immense financial burden on our family, with medical bills exceeding $500,000. I’m addition to intensive rehabilitation and therapy anticipated to last 1 to 3 months.

Throughout his treatment, my father was administered medications for a misdiagnosed condition, resulting in severe delusions and hallucinations that were incredibly distressing for our family. These errors led to additional unnecessary tests, extended ICU stays, and increased costs. Due to the prolonged lack of oxygen to his brain, my father will likely be on disability for the rest of his life, although we are still holding out hope for a miracle.

In addition to these challenges, he now requires significant dental work due to inadequate patient care, and his preexisting knee condition has deteriorated, necessitating a full knee replacement due to a torn ligament.
