My friend, Cynthia Dorce, an RN of 17 years who has dedicated her life to her profession, recently found out she has breast cancer. I’ve worked with Cynthia for 5 years and she is truly a devoted nurse, mother, and wife. I have always admired Cynthia’s attention to detail, commitment to her nursing profession, and her constant advocacy for her patients and their health and safety. Cynthia was on the front lines of Covid-19 as a bedside nurse. During this time, she offered comfort to dying patients and reassurance and support to grieving families all the while supporting her two young children, Amaya (8 years) and Ariana (5 years), navigate distance learning.
In June of 2020, Cynthia’s husband was hospitalized for a near fatal brain aneurysm and just a short time after, Cynthia’s breast cancer diagnosis came after a routine mammogram. Her children are now witnessing their mother go through difficult and debilitating radiation and chemotherapy all while she continues to assist them with schoolwork and maintaining their home. Unfortunately, Cynthia has been unable to work the past few months and does not know when she will be able to return to work. Bills are piling up and all of her friends and family would love for her to be able to recover and take care of her family without worrying about how she and her husband will make ends meet. Any amount will help.
