Six weeks ago our mom was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer that had rapidly spread through her body and turned into bone cancer as well. The cancer was so aggressive that she had five tumors on her spine and one in her lung. She completed 10 days of radiation, and although her cancer was not curable, she was excited to start chemotherapy to continue fighting this awful disease.

Sadly, her platelets and red blood cells were extremely low, which made it too dangerous to even consider chemotherapy at this point. Her doctor recommended a blood tranfusion to make her feel better and hopefully allow her to start chemotherapy within the next week. However, two days after her blood transfusion she woke up with excruciating pain all over and was unable to catch her breath.

She was rushed to the hospital where she was admitted in critical condition. Come to find out, she also had blood clots all in her legs and in her only working lung. The doctors gave her blood thinners and a platelet tranfusion, but later told us that there was nothing further that they could do for her because her cancer was too aggressive. Their only concern now was keeping her comfortable and out of pain.

She fought hard and continued to give us hope by laughing, joking with us, and being her normal hilarious self. Unfortunately, she took a turn for the worse. Ten days after being in the hospital and four hours before her 50th birthday, she passed away.

Everything happened so quick and unexpectedly, that our family had NO time to prepare for the pain, grieving, and expenses that come with this situation. Anyone that knew our mom, knew how great of person she was, that  she was full of life, and was loved everywhere she went. She was the life of the party and did anything to brighten someone's day.
