$1,000+ ELECTRIC BILL FOR 5 DAYS!
The Polar Vortex broke Texas.
Everyone is struggling in some way.
Our struggle is of an extreme financial one, as we are a young family of 4 on a single income, Teacher’s salary.
Our electricity provider is Griddy which allowed us to be subjected to ERCOT’s predatory price gouging of a constant $9.00/kWh 24/7 without ceasing since the storm hit. As soon as we became aware of the insane costs we tried to switch to another provider but after hours & hours of phone calls and online research it was a forgone conclusion that our only available electricity supplier, Oncor, said they were not doing any switches until this upcoming Monday 2/22/21. So we are stuck from 2/14-2/22/21 to be charged these insane prices for even less usage. The bill is over $1,000.00 already and still counting. For context, our ENTIRE bill with Griddy for all of the last year 2020 was $420.
So even though we didn’t lose power, we had to act like it. We turned off and unplugged everything, turned the heat down to 60 and bundled up. With a 3 yr old and a 1 yr old it is pretty challenging to keep them warm as they won’t just stay under a blanket.
All this happened as we were finally starting to recover from our whole family having a bad case of the covid-19 virus. We know others are going through the same, similar, or worse situations, but we would be so grateful if anyone is able to help out our financial burden, every little bit will help us. All prayers are welcomed and appreciated too!
