I fell in love at first sight (virtually) with Bowie in May 2018 on Pet Finder.  He was a special needs rescue listed by NY Pet Rescue. He had been in the rescue system for about 9 months while they successfully found the cause of his skin allergies and began his rehab. (click Read More below for full story.)

From the first paw print in our home in NY,  he was family.  While he loves all of us, I became his person.  He has never stopped following me.  It felt like he was telling me that he'd already lost one mama and he was not about to lose another! Our bond was instant and deep. He is SO sweet!

 

A few months later as I was reading through his thick rescue file in more detail, I began to wonder about his former life. On a whim I googled the TX rescue and decided to reach out. The email exchange is below.

I was just thinking the other day that his former "person" must think about him and wonder. I think they would be so happy to know he's happy and healthy. I got a call from Barbara (TX mama) later that day, and the rest is history! When we adopted Bowie, we had no idea that he would also connect us with his TX mama and family, and that we'd all grow so close through his love. Barbara is comforted by knowing how well-loved Bowie is.  Her gratitude and love brings us so much joy.  Barbara and I have exchanged texts and pictures or phone calls every week for almost four years. We all feel so blessed :-)

 

Sadly, last December Bowie was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma, a terminal cancer.  With the help of Dr Collins and the fine staff at Valley Cottage Animal Hospital, he's feeling happy and well at the moment.  So we decided to embark on a grand adventure together while we can!  Bowie and I will road trip from NY to TX to visit with Barbara (TX Mama) and her family. In typical Bowie fashion, it's not enough to just bring joy to his NY and TX families. He wanted to raise $ for Who Rescued Who so that other doggies can get help like he did and spread love like he does. Heaven knows the world needs more love these days, so I agreed with his idea (Hence, this -our first Go Fund Me.)

 

We leave Saturday April 9 and hope to arrive in TX on Good Friday April 15. We will be staying with Barbara and her family, and hope to reunite with Kristina at Who Rescued Who so we can thank her in person.
