Rayne's battle from Coyote attack

One of my former riding students had a terrible experience on March 6th when her rescue dog (corgi/jack russell terrier) was attacked by a coyote. Somehow little Rayne was able to outsmart the coyote and make it back to the porch door where she was covered with blood. Miranda rushed her to the nearest animal emergency hospital where she had a wound into her abdomen, multiple puncture wounds all over her body, broken ribs, and was in shock. She needed surgery and IV fluids and was sent home the next morning. Rayne continued to be critical and Miranda was concerned about her well being so she was taken to a specialist. Rayne has been undergoing extensive treatment including IV fluids, antibiotics, and pain medications. Most recently Rayne had a major setback when doctors discovered a large volume of free fluid in her abdomen. The only option to save her was to do a second surgery to locate the source of the fluid. In surgery they found that her gallbladder was ruptured creating bile peritonitis (an infection in the abdomen). She also had an abscess on her pancreas, and a torn duct. Surgery included removing the gallbladder, repairing the torn duct, draining the abscess and placing a sterile drain.
For a little dog that should have never been able to get away from the coyote, she has definitely defied the odds so far. All the doctors and staff are in awe of Rayne’s spirit and fight to live. She is currently staying in the hospital as 24 hr intensive care is needed. The odds are still stacked against her but Rayne continues to fight and is happy to see Miranda every day. Miranda has said to me that if she didn’t think Rayne was able to overcome this, she would not put her through it. If you get a second over the next few days, please say a prayer for Rayne.
While there are so many important needs and serious problems people are facing, my student and lifelong friend Miranda, could really use some help on this one. The bills are already around $5,000.00 and Rayne continues to need more medical care. Miranda has not asked for any money but I know there is not a way for her to come up with this enormous cost to save little Rayne on her own. Miranda went out on a limb rescuing Rayne a few years ago from an abusive household and they have created such a special connection. Any help that we can offer Miranda will allow her to focus more on Rayne and her recovery and less on the stresses of the climbing vet bills.
For those of you who may not realize the coyote problem is real across the country. Many animals (dogs, cats, chickens and livestock) can become victim to such attacks. A big thank you for reading this and saying a prayer for little sweet Rayne. Please share this with animal loving friends you may have and lets’ find a way to help support Miranda and Rayne.
