Well, where to begin……

On Friday, Nov. 28, Derek was taken by ambulance to HSC to undergo immediate, emergency surgery. After a week of back and forth with Portage Hospital, the infection he was fighting was taking hold. HSC wasted no time operating and removing a fair size of dead or infected tissue in a pretty sensitive area. We are still waiting for results as to what kind of infection caused all this, but they are leaning towards Fournier’s Gangrene or Necrotizing Fasciitis. (Highly recommend not to Google search images!)

Derek seems to be on the road to recovery now, but it will be a long road. He is still at HSC and will probably be there for a week or two. Derek most likely won’t be able to work again this year.

Before all this happened, we were still processing that our middle son, Mason, needs to go for major dental surgery on Dec. 11. The current estimate for his surgery is $3,900. Because of Mason having ASD, he is unable to have any work done in a regular dental office. Then on top of that, the government is making us jump through hoops to get the government dental plan. There is no way we can have it approved in time to cover this surgery cost; 100% is coming out of our pocket.

We know this is the worst time of the season for everyone, but if you could spare a few dollars or share this campaign to help take a little stress off our shoulders this holiday season, it would mean so much. Anything helps; more so, we can make sure our 3 boys have some presents under the tree this year.
