Two Rabbits Preschool Program

Tax deductible
We are all looking for a way to make a difference in the world this holiday season. This year, give the gift of education, and bring joy to a child on the other side of the world, through just a small donation to Two Rabbits! Read more to find out about how you can #GoBeyondGiving.

The Power of Education

Education is a powerful tool to fight poverty, build peace, empower communities, and prepare children for success in life. Around the world, children who access to basic education are found in places where they need it most: where discrimination, poverty, violence, and warfare make everyday life a struggle. We believe that by mobilizing resources these communities already have, and equipping them with simple educational tools, we can build a world where no child is out of reach.

Two Rabbits

We are four Master’s students at the Harvard Graduate School of Education - Mary, Sarah, Kara, and Matt - brought together by our commitment to serving children around the world.

Two Rabbits provides high-quality, preschool learning to children around the world, helping them to build literacy, numeracy, and life skills. We use low-cost mp3 players, combined with lesson facilitators from the local communities, to deliver specially tailored lessons, songs, stories, and games to the communities that need it most. When learning is fun, mobile, and in the native language, learning has no boundaries! This year, we will review our work in Cameroon, and explore serving new communities of children Myanmar.

Cameroon

Over the last year, we piloted our specially adapted curriculum with Baka children in two villages in Cameroon. The Baka are hunter-gatherers who are masters of their forest in every way. But their home is quickly disappearing, due to logging, mining, and poaching. Without being able to read or speak French, the Baka struggle to preserve their ancestral heritage or tell their story to the world. We are building in children the literacy, language, and cultural pride to defend their rights as a people.

Two Rabbits already has 150 alumni – our first class of Baka children are now in first grade! We are so proud of what they have achieved so far, and now it is time to measure our results. In March 2017, we will conduct a thorough assessment of our impact on their reading, math, and language skills, as well as their sense of cultural pride. In addition, we are excited to continue teaching a new cohort of Baka preschoolers this year.

Myanmar - Our Pivot to Children in Conflict

Our model is designed for hard-to-reach children in adversity. The fastest-growing population of such children are those affected by war and conflict. Worldwide, there are more than 3 million children in conflict age 0-4, including internally displaced persons, asylum seekers, and refugees. There is no time to lose to provide an education that enriches and protects: the average stay in a refugee camp is now more than 20 years. To foster healthy, happy, and empowered communities, we must focus on this critical period for these children with the highest need.

Building on the experience of our team, we are excited to announce a two-week mini version of our model in Myanmar! This will allow us to test our model for children that have been displaced by conflict in Kachin State and struggle to access early childhood education. We are working with local Kachin community leaders and Kachin IDP camp leaders discussing their education needs so that children affected by the war have a chance to succeed.

Join us

We have a lot of exciting work ahead of us, but we can’t do it alone! We need you there alongside us, helping us to bring the joy and excitement of preschool to children that need it most.

This year, we invite you to help us give the gift of learning to children in Myanmar and Cameroon. Education is like a fire: it grows as it spreads from one person to the next, never diminishing the original flame. Help us ignite learning for children who need it most, and make the world a brighter place.
