My name is Alex. I was born in Cincinnati, raised in Denver, and am now living in Raleigh. I met my wife in 2020, and we were married in 2024. Her name is Nonie; she was raised in North Dakota, and moved to Colorado for high school, where we met on the west side of Denver. She is a wonderful, kind human being, and creator, someone who inspires creativity.
Life together has been joyful but difficult. Both of us have debilitating health conditions. I have temporal lobe epilepsy, and live with constant partial focal seizures. On most days, I am functional, but I’ve had 6 grand mal seizures since my 2022 diagnosis. When these happen, I go unconscious, I am taken to the ER in an ambulance, and I have extensive diagnostic work done. I am out of work for several days and I cannot drive. This is very expensive. Nonie experienced a severe injury to her spine in 2012, deals with daily pain and discomfort, and must limit her physical activity. In 2020, she was diagnosed with Multi-level Degenerative Disc Disease.
We moved to North Carolina 14 months ago. I found a job as a large format printer, as I have good experience doing this. I earn a decent wage and have (expensive) healthcare benefits. But Nonie has had a hard time finding steady work that can accommodate her limitations. Living primarily on my income has us falling into a deeper hole.
Two weeks ago, we learned that Nonie is pregnant. Having been told that she might never conceive, due to endometriosis, we are thrilled. But knowing that, with her back injury, Nonie probably won’t be able to work through pregnancy, we also fear falling further into debt. And worst of all, not being able to give our child what he/she needs. I cannot bear the thought of this.
I know that in time, we will make our way. But that won’t happen overnight.
And so, we are asking for help.
The funds gathered will help us to purchase the products and services needed to give our child a healthy start to their life, as well as helping us to cover our medical expenses and avoid collections.
Thank you for your consideration.
