Life has thrown unimaginable challenges at David and Pamela Nelms, and they now urgently need help. The love and support they’ve received so far from friends and neighbors has meant the world, but we wanted to create a more formal way for the community to rally behind them during this incredibly difficult time.
For months, David and Pam resisted starting a GoFundMe, out of pride and their desire to manage on their own, but the reality is, they now truly need outside help. Their family has done all they can, but the level of support needed is far beyond what they can provide.
This couple has always worked hard and given back, volunteering for years with local fire departments. David even served as Fire Chief of their area’s volunteer fire department until his health forced him to step down. Now, both are unable to work, and the weight of monthly bills, medical costs, and basic living expenses is becoming too much to bear.
Their Story
David is awaiting final insurance approval to be placed on the liver transplant list due to non-alcoholic cirrhosis, all while managing type 1 diabetes. He has been too ill to work for several months, facing not just the physical and emotional toll of his condition, but also mounting financial strain.
Adding to their hardship, just a few months ago, Pam underwent a lower leg amputation due to complications from diabetes and kidney issues. She is now recovering and learning to walk again, also unable to work.
Despite everything, David and Pam remain strong, hopeful, and focused on healing, but they cannot do it alone.
How Your Support Will Help
Every donation will go toward:
• Monthly bills (housing, utilities, transportation, groceries)
• Medical expenses (doctor visits, treatments, medications, recovery needs)
• Travel costs for transplant appointments and follow-ups
• Essential support while both are unable to work
Your generosity, whether through a donation or by sharing this page, will help carry them through one of the hardest seasons of their lives.
