Two Kansas Nurses Seriously Injured Need Your Help

Deb and Ellisa are nurses and work in the Health and Wellness Department at Flint Hills Job Corps. In many ways, their jobs are what you might remember your school nurse doing. However, they also get to help mentor and train young adults seeking certifications in healthcare occupations at Job Corps. Deb and Elissa are caring, compassionate, and fight to help provide a healthy learning environment for all Job Corps students.

Just before noon Wednesday, June 10th Deb and Ellisa were on their way to pick up lunch when they were suddenly impacted by a large box truck on Scenic Drive on the west side of Manhattan, Kansas near Flint Hills Job Corps Campus.

Elissa was flown from the scene by Life Star helicopter to Topeka. Deb was initially transported to Ascension Via Christi for treatment of her injuries and then transported to Topeka as well.

The injuries suffered by both are severe and include everything from broken legs and hips to concussions and mental health recovery. The initial recovery time is at least going to take 6 months and each of them is going to need to learn to walk again.

Deb and Ellisa are going to need support and help to meet additional needs beyond just medical expenses. We are asking you to help them anyway you can.

Some examples of what Deb and Elissa need help with:

- Travel expenses for family to stay near hospital
- Assistance to pay tuition to continue their own education to finish school in order to become RN's
- Physical Therapy that Workmans Comp may not cover
- Medications & CoPays
- Clothing that is adaptable to their injuries
- Food and Grocery expenses for their families
- Any expenses for transportation that insurance won't cover
- Long-term traumatic and mental health care

Deb said that at the end of this week they should have an idea of additional needs and emergency expenses they are expecting to incur.

They said, "We both feel very blessed that we are here today breathing and able to continue to fight through pain and suffering. We are truly blessed with the best work family and our own friends and family. We love you all"
