Hi! My name is Maria Terris. I never thought I would be doing this, but here goes. My dog Pua, who is 6 years old, suddenly in January didn't want to eat. This is very rare for a dachsund. A week or so later she started walking funny so I gave her some medications I have in the house for back pain that I had for Hoku. Pua didn't show any progress or improvement at all. I had used it for Hoku in the past, and it was easy to see his small increments of improvement. Something felt different about Pua, and even my husband noticed the difference between the two dogs.
We brought her to Mexico even though we have insurance, because it is a large amount of money to have back surgery. Unfortunately, after her MRI while waiting for surgery, she had terrible stomach issues, so we brought her home. The next day we brought her in to Veterinary Specialty Hospital in San Marcos to have surgery. She recovered slowly but surely over the weeks that followed, and just when we thought we were out of the woods, she started walking funny again, and then couldn't walk at all. We brought her for a recheck, and the doctor said it was probably another herniated disc. He said she probably would get better within 2 weeks with rest and medication.
Again, my husband and I felt something was wrong, and after less than a week brought her back in as an emergency. Apparently, 5-10% of dogs herniate the same disc (there was some part left there that they don't remove because it wasn't a problem). Not a lucky dog, that's for sure.
We had the second surgery, and she is doing great.
Unfortunately, our insurance didn't cover anything that we did in Mexico and we are still waiting for the second surgery insurance to come in. It covers 80%. I have never owed this much money in my life. I am currently looking for an additional job to help pay for this. I am not helpless, but still looking for a little help to ease the pain.
I would do anything for my dogs. As all of you who know me, my dogs are my life. All of the money that I receive will go directly to pay her bills. I know money is tight for everyone right now, but anything will help. Thank you in advance for helping me help my Sweetie Poo.
