Two 17yr olds cycle from Bristol-Munich for soil

Donation protected
Hi! We are two seventeen-year-old twins, Kashyap and Kaustubh, from Bristol, UK. We plan to embark on a 3-week long, 900 mile, cycle ride from our house in Bristol to Munich to raise awareness about the soil crisis. We will be cooking our own food and mostly wild camping, however any funds would be greatly appreciated for equipment and groceries. Any unused funds will be directly reinvested into raising awareness about soil in our hometown, Bristol.

SaveSoil is a charity that both Kaustubh and I hold close to our hearts. We have a deep history with SaveSoil, having previously fundraised and led Bristol-based initiatives in the past.

Founded by Sadhguru, the core aim of SaveSoil is to combat soil extinction. Our planet is losing its ability to grow food. If no action is taken, then we will only have 60 years of farming left before our planet’s soil fully degrades. This will result in mass famine. Healthy soil also acts as a carbon sink, and the degradation of soil has released more co2 into the atmosphere in the past 30 years than all the worlds' industries combined.

In a world where the population is booming, food scarcity could become an existential threat to billions. Even today, the very poorest of farmers are experiencing devastating yields due to the soil crisis. This heavily impacts their livelihood and drives many to suicide.

The SaveSoil initiative aims to educate the public about this crisis, and ultimately enforce global policy change. The charity also works with farmers to improve farming techniques, which not only maintains healthy soil, but increases yield for the farmers.

Public awareness is the only way in which widespread policy change can be enforced to ensure sustainable farming.

Therefore, Kaustubh and I will be going on this trip to raise awareness for the soil crisis through media attention. We hope to gain coverage through SaveSoil’s existing media platform, as well as a social media presence. To do this, we will document our travels while also finding examples of sustainable farming and soil degradation to share along the way. We will also wear bright green SaveSoil t-shirts throughout our trip, to hopefully attract the attention of passers-by, and start conversations wherever we go.

We look forward to the trip and hope we can make a change with you by our side.

Warmest regards,
Kashyap and Kaustubh
