Dear Friends and Colleagues

It was our privilege this February to create a short film for Vancouver’s esteemed Crazy 8’s Film Society . We called it, The Twisted Slipper .

A true labour of love, our production from start to finish was epitome of collaborative effort. With over 200 cast and crew involved and a minimalist budget for our grand vision, it was no small feat to finish within the 8 day deadline. After a mad dash to the finish, many laughs, and a few tears along the way, it was a very proud moment to watch our film screen at the Crazy 8’s Gala .  Hearing the audiences’ heartfelt reactions to the story filled our hearts with joy.

After the film screened at The Crazy 8’s Gala, our director Angie Nolan , editor Jamie Ellard , and sound designer/composer Ryan Tapp  headed back to the edit suite to tighten up the film and deliver a director’s cut for festival submissions. In the midst of all these happy accomplishments, a profound tragedy struck- we lost our teammate, friend and brother to creator, co-writer and actor, Sharai Rewels .

Ryan was only twenty eight years old, and a promising talent in film scoring. He was so excited to have just signed on as sound director for his first feature project, to commence in May. In the wake of this unfathomable passing of our young, talented colleague, he left a large hole in our hearts. Through the unfortunate circumstances involving a fire that destroyed almost all of Ryan’s belongings, we also lost the final edit of our short film with his final composition.

Jamie Ellard and Angie Nolan have been dedicated to another, final re-edit, using the original, remastered Crazy 8s Gala version score, so The Twisted Slipper will be carried on as a legacy to Ryan’s accomplishments. We will cherish the memory of our time working together on this project.

Amid all of this recent darkness, there has been some shining light, and we are humbled to announce that The Twisted Slipper has been accepted to Cannes Court Metrage – Short Film Corner . This is the first of many submissions to an upcoming festival circuit and eventual distribution. We are so grateful and honored for these opportunities to share our artful collaboration with the world!

We are now asking for your help via kind donations to help us please pay off our $7000 debt for re-editing and saving our film, to help us partially fund our way to Cannes and to submit our film to other film festivals.

Please help team The Twisted Slipper  and donate now and share this post.  If you are not able to donate please share this post to those who may be able to assist.

Thank you so much for your time, consideration, and dedication to creating legacies of art.

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart. -Helen Keller

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts to yours.
