Twins with Chiari Malformation of the Brain

Donation protected
These are our twin brothers, Jack and Alexander. At 16 years of age, they have both been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation and require crucial neurosurgery.

After complaining of constant headaches and random nosebleeds, Jack was taken to the family GP who ordered an MRI. After the confirmed diagnosis for Jack, Alex, who had similar headache symptoms, was also prescribed an MRI which then confirmed a smaller but just as consequential brain condition.

Both our brothers and parents are travelling to Sydney next month to be seen by the best brain surgeon experienced with Chiari Malformation in Australia. The surgery will involve removing part of their skull and 1st vertebrae to prevent the brain from further slipping into the brain stem. While patching will hold their brain in place. There is no cure for Chiari Malformation, only treatment.

Jack and Alex are both heavily involved in sport, especially soccer. Unfortunately, living with CM means they will no longer be able to play contact sports, among a range of other lifestyle changes. In spite of this they will be "concentrating on the things they can do, not the ones they can't". Once recovered, they both want to learn how to play the guitar.

The funds raised from this page will go towards costs associated with their surgery, and anything is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Love Katie & Kerrie-Ann
