Twelfth Night or (Give) What You Will
Donation protected
We are Venture Shakespeare and this summer with your support, we will produce the Bard’s classic comedy, Twelfth Night in Asheville, North Carolina. We will bring in artists from around the world to create a performance that will not only delight the imagination, but change the way our audiences see themselves and each other. We believe in Shakespeare that is alive and embodied and passionate – not stuck to the pages of a book, or the classrooms of academia, but that bursts into the world as alive as we are. We strive to bring that to you through research, education, and collaboration.
Why This Play
As an ensemble we are exploring Twelfth Night’s themes of identity - how we form it, our secrets and why we share them, and our quest of self-discovery. This is a play about the surprises we find in ourselves as we navigate the transformative powers of loss and love. This is a world where all the characters are challenging their class, gender norms, and the system they were born into. That feels like a story worth telling.
Who We Are
Our first program in 2018 trained an ensemble of young actors who studied together and developed a performance inspired by Twelfth Night. As we embark on our second venture (pun-intended), we will create a full production of Twelfth Night: hiring local artists and supporting grassroots businesses. Building on our commitment to education, we will also perform Twelfth Night for the Asheville Academy for Girls, and provide discounted tickets to young and sage learners alike.
As an investor in this venture (pun-intended again), we want you to feel part of our family. We are in the process of setting up a livestream so that our community near and far can participate.
Our acting ensemble studied together under master-teachers at Shakespeare & Company and we are excited to bring our connection, ideas, and passion for Shakespeare to the broader Asheville community. Find out more about us here .
We have performed at theatres such as The Royal Shakespeare Company, the Czech National Theatre, The Colorado Shakespeare Festival, The Stella Adler Studio, Shakespeare & Company, Prague Shakespeare Company, Letter of Marque Theatre Company, among others. We can’t wait to work together again and share our passion and discoveries with you! Learn more about our talented company!
The Breakdown
Creating theatre is expensive, especially if we want to pay our artists (and we do!). The money you donate to us will go directly to creating props and costumes, the rental of our rehearsal and performance spaces and paying stipends, room, and board for the company while we are working.
We will create great theatre but we need your help. Your investment makes this possible. Do you have something you want to donate in kind? Are you a local business? We have promotional opportunities! Talk to us.

Thank you so, so much for your support. We hope to earn your pride, repay you, and pass it forward!
